Dr. Shrestha gave an invited presentation on "Harnessing anaerobic microbiomes for circular biomanufacturing from agri-food waste” at the Tri-Service Microbiome Consortium (TSMC) Topical Meeting 2026, organized by the Office of the Undersecretary of War.
March 2026
PhD students, Xuejiao Lyu and Mujaheed Nuhu, presented their dissertation work at the IWA Biofilm Reactors Conference in Alabama.
Dr. Dianna Kitt presented her postdoc work on designing synthetic microbial consortia for biomanufacturing at the Mid-Atlantic Microbiome Meet-up Symposium in Engineering and Analytics in Microbiome Research.

Dr. Shrestha gave a department seminar on "Reimagining Waste as Resources: Engineering Anaerobic Microbiomes for Sustainable Biomanufacturing” at the Biodesign Institute, Arizona State University.
Dr. Shrestha delivered an invited keynote lecture on Harnessing biofilms for efficient medium chain carboxylic acids production through innovative bioreactor design and support materials at the 3rd International Chain Elongation Conference in South Korea.

Dr. Shrestha convened a session on “Microbes and Built Environment” and gave an invited talk on “Resource recovery of medium chain carboxylic acids from organic waste streams: An environmental life cycle assessment” at the Society of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology Annual Meeting, Minneapolis.
Dr. Shilva Shrestha moved from the Joint BioEnergy Institute, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab to Johns Hopkins University to start as an assistant professor in the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering.
